The compactors start and stop automatically when garbage is sensed in the compaction chamber, other than cleaning the electric sensor and yearly maintenance, there is no other maintenance required allowing for many years of fail-safe operation. Compactors are often used at the bottom of a rubbish chute for easy removal of rubbish from a multi-tenant apartment building.
